On 25 July 2025, BANGKOK – The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) hosted a high-level delegation from the China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute (CREEI), reinforcing a strategic partnership dedicated to accelerating renewable energy and sustainable development across ASEAN. The visit, coordinated by AIT’s Belt and Road Research Center (BRRC), marks a pivotal step in deepening collaboration following the institutions’ landmark 2021 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and their successful 2024 technical dialogue.

Led by Professor Gu Hongbin, CREEI’s Deputy Director General and Chief Technical Expert, the delegation met with AIT President Prof. Pai-Chi Li and key faculty members, including Dr. Wenchao Xue, Director of BRRC. The agenda includes discussions on joint research initiatives, academic exchanges, and concrete projects in renewable energy policy, cross-border power trade, and sustainable infrastructure – building on the shared priorities identified during CREEI’s last visit in September 2024.

Strengthening a Legacy of Partnership
The AIT-CREEI alliance, formalized in 2021, has driven critical initiatives such as policy frameworks for ASEAN clean energy transitions and joint contributions to the China-ASEAN Clean Energy Week. The 2024 meeting further solidified commitments to establishing cooperative labs and advancing AIT’s pioneering initiatives in sustainable development. This visit aims to translate these ambitions into actionable projects, with BRRC spearheading coordination.
