During January 30 to Feb 2, 2024 – A delegation from Tsinghua University led by Prof. Qiu Yong, Secretary of the CPC Tsinghua Committee, visited Thailand. Officials from the Office of International Affairs, the Alumni Association, and the School of Public Policy & Management of Tsinghua University are in the delegation. This visit aims to strengthen and deepen cooperations between Tsinghua university and Thailand in different ways and in many aspects, such as in education, science and technology, humanities, and other fields.

Prof. Qiu Yong met Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the Princess of Thailand on February 2nd. In the meeting, both Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and Prof. Qiu expressed wishes for future cooperation between Thailand and China, and anticipated the prospect of Tsinghua’s role in advancing Sino-Thai relations.

 

The delegation visited Thailand Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and met with Minister Supamas Isarabhakdi on February 1st. The communication stressed the significant role of universities in strengthening bilateral relationship between the two countries, and strong wishes of increased communication and exchange between Tsinghua and Thailand in the field of higher education.

 

Prof. Qiu Yong met and communicated with President Kazuo Yamamoto of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on January 31st on the potential of deeper collaboration with AIT under the Belt and Road Initiative. The delegation also visited the construction site of the China-Thailand High Speed Railway, the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative that AIT BRRC is collaborating with China State Construction Engineering(Thailand) Holding Co. .

 

The delegation met with the Charoen Pokphand Group Company, Ltd., Dhanin Chearavanont, the senior chairman of the Charlene Pokphand Group Company, Ltd. and Chairman Soopakij Chearavanont, for collaborative technological innovation to support rural revitalization and high-level talents cultivation.

 

Prof. Qiu met Han Zhiqiang, Chinese Ambassador to Thailand, communication focusing on consolidating scientific and educational collaborations through universities and academic institutions of both countries.

 

Prof. Qiu met representatives of Tsinghua University alumni in Thailand, and expressed sincere wish of Tsinghua alumni contributing more to bilateral relationship and cooperations between Thailand and China.
