On December 8, 2025, AIT Belt and Road Research Center (BRRC) played a pivotal role as a co-organizer of the China-Thailand Forum on Clean Water Technology Cooperation in Bangkok. Held as a key side event of the 2025 IWA Water and Development Congress & Exhibition, the forum was jointly sponsored by the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences (RCEES, CAS), and the International Water Association (IWA). This high-level gathering successfully brought together leading scientists, policymakers, and industry experts from both nations, including distinguished attendees such as Academician Qu Jiuhui and representatives from Thailand’s Hydro-Informatics Institute and Kasetsart University, to address pressing regional water security challenges.

During the forum’s thematic session, Dr. Wenchao Xue, Director of BRRC and Associate Professor at AIT, delivered a critical presentation titled “Emerging Microplastic Pollution in Thai Waters and Control Strategies.” Her talk highlighted a growing environmental concern, bringing scientific focus to an invisible pollutant threatening aquatic ecosystems and public health. This contribution directly supported the forum’s mission of applying cutting-edge research to real-world problems, aligning with broader collaborative projects like the upcoming CAS-ANSO initiative on microplastic detection technology at AIT.

The forum served as a dynamic platform for translating dialogue into action. It facilitated in-depth discussions on a wide range of topics, from integrated water management to advanced purification technologies. By co-organizing this event and contributing expert knowledge, BRRC reinforced its central position as a catalyst for Sino-Thai scientific and technological collaboration. The outcomes of the forum are expected to pave the way for strengthened research partnerships, knowledge exchange, and the joint development of sustainable solutions for water security in the region.
