During November 14 to 22, 2025, the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), through its Belt and Road Research Center, proudly co-organized the “2025 Southeast Asian Green Energy Application Technology Training” in Kunming, China. Held at Kunming University of Science and Technology and hosted by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, this intensive program was implemented in partnership with the Yunnan Green Energy Industry Association. The training was strategically integrated with the parallel “2025 Green Energy Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality International Conference,” creating a powerful platform for knowledge exchange and regional collaboration in sustainable energy.

A group of 6 participants from the Climate Change and Sustainable Development (CCSD) program, Asian Institute of Technology, attended this program with full financial support. The members of this group are from Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Indonesia. The curriculum of this training program was designed to provide holistic learning experience, combining thematic seminars on green energy application technology, practical system operations, and exclusive visits to characteristic local green energy projects in Yunnan does not open to the public. Participants from AIT have the advantage of networking with a diverse cohort of professionals from government departments, enterprises, research institutions, and social organizations across the region.

As a key organizer, the AIT Belt and Road Research Center played a pivotal role in facilitating this cross-border initiative. The center’s involvement underscored AIT’s commitment to acting as a bridge for sustainable development and technological exchange along the Maritime Silk Road. The event successfully convened stakeholders to discuss pressing energy challenges and explore collaborative pathways, reinforcing AIT’s mission to develop highly qualified and committed professionals who will play a leading role in the region’s sustainable development and its integration into the global economy.

On November 15, the “2025 International Conference on Green Energy Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality,” was held at Kunming University of Science and Technology as a highlight of the program. At the conference, a cooperation Memorandum of Understanding between Yunnan Green Energy Industry Association and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) was signed. The memorandum strengthens cooperation in green energy and environmental sustainability, including joint training programs, seminars, forums, institutional and personnel exchanges, as well as scientific research collaboration, technology transfer, and market promotion, further advancing green economic transformation in Asia.

This training and conference mark a significant milestone in fostering a shared green future for Southeast Asia. By translating cutting-edge research and proven technological solutions into actionable knowledge, the program has empowered a new network of practitioners and policymakers. The partnerships solidified in Kunming lay a strong foundation for future industry-university-research cooperation, accelerating the transfer of green energy technologies and the formulation of supportive policies. AIT remains dedicated to building upon this success, leveraging its unique position as a neutral, international hub to drive innovation, build capacity, and champion the collaborative action necessary for a resilient, low-carbon, and prosperous Asia-Pacific region.
