On October 24, 2024 – Asian Institute of Technology co-organized the “Green Tech Expo 2024” that unfolded over three days from October 24 to 26, at Hall 102 of the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC). The event, themed “Driving Sustainable Solutions: Green Technology for Business,” brought together leaders, researchers, and industry experts from across the globe, focusing on accelerating sustainable development initiatives and promoting advanced green technologies that enhance business sustainability and efficiency.

The AIT Belt and Road Research Center (BRRC) played a pivotal role in co-organizing the Green Tech Expo 2024. In a collaborative effort with the Thailand-Sino Association of Sciences and Technology (TSAST), China Council for the Promotion of International Trade–Shanghai (CCPIT-Shanghai), Burapha University, China Chamber of International Commerce, and the Guangzhou Industry High-Quality Development Association, this event aimed to create a diverse platform for dialogue, technological exchange, and the cultivation of partnerships that drive forward sustainable development objectives across Asia and beyond.

Apart from AIT Booth, this year there is a cluster of green tech companies organized by Asian Institute of Technology, participated the Expo as exhibitors, including INC SQUARE Co., Ltd., Drone Entry (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Supumps Environmental Technology (Changzhou) Co. Ltd., Anhui Pushi Ecological Environment Engineering Co. Ltd., Lihe Technology (Hunan) Co. Ltd., Chongqing Renewable Energy Society, Chongqing Yijiaxing HVAC Engineering Co., Ltd., China-Thailand Green Eco-Environmental Technology Industrial Park.

During the EXPO, Thailand’s 27th Prime Minister, Hon. Abhisit Vejjajiva, was among the distinguished visitors to the AIT booth. During his visit, he expressed keen interest in the pioneering research on display as well as in AIT BRRC’s recent initiatives and accomplishments. This included insights into innovations spearheaded by AIT doctoral researchers, such as Mr. Peerawit Janta, from AIT’s Environmental Engineering and Management (EEM) program. Mr. Janta’s work centers on the development of Engineering Cementitious Composites (ECC), incorporating repurposed clothing materials into cement production. This innovative approach significantly reduces textile waste and fosters a circular economy by providing new purpose to discarded textiles, empowering local communities to adopt sustainable practices and mitigate environmental impact. Additionally, Mr. Yifan He, also a doctoral candidate from AIT EEM, showcased his transformative work on converting activated sludge into biochar for use in novel electrode materials for water deionization. His research emphasizes a “waste-to-resource” approach, where activated sludge, a challenging byproduct of wastewater treatment, is transformed into valuable biochar. This biochar, in turn, plays a crucial role in sustainable water purification technologies, embodying a closed-loop approach to resource management.

AIT’s active co-organization and participation in the Green Tech Expo in Thailand for the second year since 2023, aims to set new benchmarks for excellence in green technology and innovation, contributing to global sustainability discussions and advocating for actionable solutions. Through its expertise and leadership in sustainable development, AIT continues to inspire forward-thinking change and support the global mission for a carbon-neutral future. The Green Tech Expo 2024 underscored AIT’s dedication to fostering impactful partnerships and promoting a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
