On December 8, 2025, the Belt and Road Environmental Innovation Lab was officially launched, serving as a significant milestone in industry-academia collaboration, at the China-Thailand Clean Water Technology Cooperation Forum in Bangkok. This laboratory is the flagship outcome of the strategic partnership between the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Lihe Technology (Hunan) Co., Ltd., established through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in November 2023. The launch represents the successful translation of a collaborative framework into a tangible platform for research and development.

The newly inaugurated lab is designed to serve as a dynamic hub for technological innovation and practical solution development in environmental engineering. It will focus on critical areas such as advanced water quality monitoring, intelligent environmental data analysis, and the testing of novel treatment technologies. By combining AIT’s world-class academic research and regional expertise with Lihe Technology’s industry-leading capabilities in environmental monitoring equipment and system integration, the lab aims to accelerate the development and deployment of sustainable environmental technologies tailored to the needs of Thailand and the broader ASEAN region.

The establishment of the Belt and Road Environmental Innovation Lab is a cornerstone achievement for BRRC in its mission to foster impactful partnerships. This facility not only strengthens the scientific and technological bridge between China and Thailand but also creates new opportunities for student training, joint research projects, and technology transfer. As a living embodiment of the Belt and Road initiative’s focus on green development and shared knowledge, the lab is poised to become a key contributor to regional environmental sustainability and climate resilience efforts.
