On September 11, 2025, a high-level delegation from the Chengdu Center of China Geological Survey (CC-CGS) visited the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok for a pivotal working meeting aimed at deepening Sino-Thai cooperation in geosciences. The delegation, led by Deputy Director General Mr. Zhongli Liao, engaged with AIT leadership and faculty, including Dr. Wenchao Xue, Associate Professor at AIT and Director of the Belt and Road Research Center (BRRC). The meeting served as a key platform to advance collaborative initiatives under the framework of China-ASEAN cooperation, with BRRC playing a connective role in fostering this institutional partnership.

The core agenda focused on practical collaboration in talent development and technological innovation. Both parties discussed concrete steps to advance the construction of the China-ASEAN Geosciences Information Big Data Platform. Specific proposals included inviting AIT faculty to contribute to the platform’s development, establishing scholar exchange programs, and exploring joint research projects. A presentation by CC-CGS Senior Geologist Ms. Zhang Hong outlined the platform’s progress and outlook, paving the way for AIT’s potential role as a technical partner and regional node.

This meeting marks a significant step in solidifying a trilateral collaboration bridge linking China, Thailand, and the broader ASEAN region in the field of sustainable geoscience. The discussions reaffirmed a shared commitment to leveraging AIT’s academic excellence and regional network alongside CC-CGS’s technical expertise to address common challenges in resource management and environmental sustainability. BRRC, through its leadership, continues to actively support and document such knowledge-driven partnerships that are essential for promoting scientific diplomacy and shared development goals under the Belt and Road Initiative.
