On September 24th, 2024 – Visitors from China Foreign Affairs University Institute of Asian studies (CFAU) (IAS), led by Prof. Yue Yang, Deputy Director, Institute of Asian studies, CFAU, visited AIT Belt and Road Research Center (BRRC). Dr. Wenchao Xue, Director, AIT BRRC/Head of EEM, SET and Ms. Sai Tang, Program Officer, welcomed the delegation in BRRC office. Institute of Asian studies, CFAU, is China’s national coordinator institute for the Network of East Asian Think-tanks (NEAT), the Network of ASEAN-China Think-tanks (NACT), and the Network of Trilateral Cooperation of Think-tanks (NTCT). It also serves the grand strategy of diplomacy of the country and undertakes the work of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry of China.
Primary discussion of potential collaborations was carried based on the exchanges of the two institute’s activities and priorities. Specific points of collaboration mention in the meeting include the Training Program for Future LMC Diplomats organized by China Foreign Affairs University Institute of Asian studies (CFAU) (IAS), joint organization of international conferences, co-organization of capacity building programs in the future, etc.
BRRC coordinated a research trip for the delegation of IAS, CFAU to China State Construction Engineering (Thailand) Co., Ltd (CSCECTH) to learn about the Belt and Road flagship project Thai-China High Speed Railway that is under construction and BRRC is collaborating with CSCECTH. This trip is of great importance of learning about the Pan-Asian railway network construction and the regional connection from the perspective of diplomacy, which is one of the core purposes of the delegation’s research trip in Thailand.
