During 29-31 May 2023, the Digital Belt and Road Program (DBAR), International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS), DBAR International Center of Excellence (DBAR ICoE-Bangkok) of National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) and Belt and Road Research Center of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT-BRRC), organized the Professional Training Program on “Utilizing Big Earth Data to Enhance SDG Research, Monitoring and Reporting in Thailand and Southeast Asia” at GISTDA Academy, Bangkok, Thailand.
On the opening ceremony 29th May, introduce and welcome remarks by Dr. Wiparat De-ong, Executive Director of The National Research Council of Thailand, meanwhile opening remarks by Prof. GUO Huadong, Director General International Research Center of Big Earth Data for Sustainable Development Goals, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
On the Closing ceremony 31st May, closing remarks by Prof. Yubao QIU, Secretary-General, DBAR Secretariat, The International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS), follow by Dr. Wenchao Xue, Associate Professor, Dept. of Energy, Environment, and Climate Change and Director of AIT Belt and Road Research Center (BRRC) and closing messages by Dr. Monthip Sriratana, Director of DBAR International Center of Excellence (DBAR ICoE-Bangkok), The National Research Council of Thailand, expressed of appreciation and gratitude to partner organization, namely China-ASEAN Regional Innovation Center for Big Earth Data (CARIC), International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE), CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence on Space Technology for Disaster Mitigation (SDIM), National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), and Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), Distinguished Resource Persons and Participants.
Dr. Monthip also mentioned that research, monitoring and reporting are essential elements for SDG achievements, especially on assessing climate change impact and the status of water security. To be able to assess, we need to measure, and utilizing big earth data help decision-makes make an objective evaluation of the situation. And always remember that what you have learned from this training course should be utilized for the betterment of society. Hope the knowledge gained in this training workshop will benefit not only the individual participants but also the organizations they represent. The training program is jointly organized by NRCT, Digital Belt and Road (DBAR), DBAR International Center of Excellence (ICoE-Bangkok), International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS), and the Belt and Road Research Center of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT-BRRC), aims to introduce the principles and cases of utilizing Big Earth Data in SDGs monitoring and progress reporting and to promote the data resources and facilities of DBAR in terms of implementation. It will build on the capacity and network of knowledge professionals, practitioners, and managers applying Big Earth data for SDG study and reporting in Thailand and the ASEAN region.
Objectives of the program
- Introduce the concept, principles, and cases of utilizing Big Earth Data in SDGs monitoring and progress reporting.
- Promote the data resources and facilities of DBAR in terms of implementing the research, monitoring and reporting of SDGs using Big Earth data.
- Build the capacity of relevant professionals, practitioners, and managers in applying Big Earth data for SDG study and reporting in Thailand and the ASEAN region.
- Establish the regional networks on Big Earth data for SDGs.
